Reading Fun!

May 19, 2016

All of the Head Start classrooms had a blast when Officer Donovan of the Chicago Police Department came for a visit. Officer Donovan read to the scholars, answered all of their questions and made sure they each knew that the emergency number was 9-1-1!

A Call for Celebration!

February 10, 2016

Please join the Head Start community in the Settlement as we celebrate one of our parents, Ms. Arit  Vazquez, upon recently receiving her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential from the Council for Professional Recognition.
Ms. Arit earned her CDA Credential through hard work and dedication: creating and organizing a portfolio, taking a final online test and a Verification visit by a Professional Development Specialist.
Ms. Arit stated that, “Earning my Credential reinforces my commitment to Early Childhood Education and its practices”.2016-02-02 19.51.52

Whitley Room had a ton of fun seeing what different plant oil extracts did to Styrofoam! We smelled Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint and Orange. Each of the kids had to smell the oils and guess what they thought it was. The majority of the kids guessed that the Peppermint was gum! Lavender was spray, I’m guessing Febreze, and guessed the Lemon and Orange on the first try!¬†After the kids smelled, we placed them on the plates and watched what happened. The Lavender and Peppermint didn’t change at all. But both the Lemon and Orange started to bubble and eat through the plates.

Puzzle Time!
