AmeriCorps MLK Youth Literacy Fair 2015

On January 19th, AmeriCorps held their 8th annual Youth Literacy Fair in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Northwestern Settlement House. Scholars from School Age, Head Start, and members of the community enjoyed a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, theatre, and poetry workshops.

Let it Snow!

If the weather outside is frightful, bring the fun indoors! Scholars from the Sunshines created their own version of snow with baking soda and hair conditioner. With this “snow”, scholars made snowmen, snowballs, and snow mountains.

Baking with the West Room

Children from the Head Start’s East room created tasty treats for holiday. Each child was able to shape, decorate, and enjoy holiday themed cookies.

2014 Holiday Pageant

January 20, 2015

Head Start held their annual pageant for the holiday season. Each of the four Head Start rooms performed songs as well as dances to celebrate the holiday season. At the end of all the individual performances, all classes joined together for a lively performance of “Feliz Navidad”.

Caroling in the Neighborhood

Community members, family, scholars, and friends of the Northwestern Settlement House all got the chance to Christmas Carol around the West Town neighborhood. Mary, Joseph, and a few friendly animals came along to sing and lead the caroling through the neighborhood.
