Sink or Float?

July 19, 2012

During the week, volunteers from the Museum of Science and Industry came to present a variety of fun science activities to the students. The Superheroes learned the concepts of sinking and floating, while also interacting with fun songs and a story. The students were also able to see the volunteers on the field trip to the Museum making their experience that much more enjoyable. It was nice for the students to see someone  familiar throughout the week. We all had a blast and found out that many things sink…or float!

Reading with Mr. Ron

July 19, 2012

Each week, Mr. Ron Manderschied, the President of the Northwestern Settlement, spends quality time with the Superheroes of Summer Adventure. He reads two books to the eager and attentive group of 3-5 year olds. Reading is so important and this is emphasized by having guest readers in the classroom.  It is always an exciting experience and the teachers are always appreciative when others volunteer their time.

Remember when…

July 2, 2012

The Summer Sizzlers are full of energy and enjoy spending time at the sprinklers, at the park, and in drama class. At the end of each day, they spend  time unwinding and journaling about the day’s events. It is a wonderful way to catalog their eventful summer but also allows them to practice their writing skills and prepare for 1st Grade.

Wet and Wild in the Sun

July 2, 2012

During the hot days of summer, the staff and children try to find fun and creative ways to cool off from the heat. The children enjoy playing in the pools and sprinklers at Eckhart and Pulaski Park. It was especially nice when they got a surprise treat at Navy Pier and were able to play in their water area and at the nearby beach.
